The title Viscount Bolingbroke was created in 1712 the Peerage of Great Britain for Henry St John. St John was also given the title of Baron St John. After the first Viscount's death, the title was inherited by Frederick St John, who had previously succeeded to the titles of Viscount St John and Baron St John of Battersea, both in the Peerage of Great Britain.
