Saint Molaise, born late 6th century, also called Staint Laisren or Lazerian, meaning light. Born in Ireland and raised in Scotland as a young man he lived the life of a hermit on Holy Isle. He later visted Rome as a pilgrim and was ordained a bishop. On return to Ireland he founded a church at Leighlin in County Carlow and eventually became abbot of a local monastery.

Saint Molaise's feast day is celebrated on April 18.
