The Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland (RPII) is the national institute in the Republic of Ireland responsible for ionising radiation and radioactive contamination matters since its establishment in 1991 by the Radiological Protection Act, 1991 (http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1991_9.html). The institute is also the successor to Nuclear Energy Board, the Irish Government no is longer pursuing a nuclear power option, the Nuclear Energy Board was formally wound up by the 1991 Act of the Oireachtas. The institute is currently responsible to the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
