Proportional representation (sometimes referred to as "PR") is the system of voting used in the Republic of Ireland.

It is a voting system when a number of candidates may sit for election in a constituency and who may receive a proportion (over a quota after a distribution of preferences) rather than requiring a majority of the vote to be elected to represent the people of the contituency.

The PR system does not operate in Northern Ireland
