Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of York, Beatrice Elizabeth Mary Mountbatten-Windsor (born August 8, 1988) is the elder daughter of the Duke of York and his wife Sarah, Duchess of York (née Sarah Ferguson).

The date of her birth was widely regarded as being a good omen, because the digit '8' is considered lucky in many countries. She was born at the Portland Hospital in London, her parents following the growing trend amongst members of the British royal family not to have their children born at home.
