Paddy Smith was from Cootehill in County Cavan. He was involved in the Easter Rising in 1916 and later in the Old IRA.
He was Minister for Agriculture and resigned from Government on October 8, 1964. Charles Haughey was appointed in his place - it was Haughey's first ministry.
