Omagh Town FC comes from the town Omagh, which has around 17,280 inhabitants. The town is behind Derry/Londonderry the second largest city of the west of Northern Ireland. It is the county town of Tyrone. Omagh is located where the rivers Camowen and Drumragh come together to form the Strule. The town is said to owe its origins to an abbey founded in 792 AD.

The story of Omagh Town Football and Athletic Club started in august 1962 when Aines McGeehan, who passed away in 2003, started a team for young players from the Derry Road area of the town Omagh. The team was called Omagh Celtic Football Club and they had maroon shirts with blue shorts. The team with its working class members (Catholic and protestant) played at Quarry Field Mullaghmena in Omagh.

In 1969 the club changed its name name to Omagh Town Football and Athletic Club and also changed their accommodation to the Military Holm for three years and after that to the Omagh Showgrounds. After 1974 the strip also changed to white shirts and black shorts. This combination has changed again since then to a red-black striped shirt and black shorts.

In 1990 Omagh Town moved to the current St Julians Road Stadium. In 1987 this site was a disused Council Dump. Omagh leased the land and developed a football stadium. The stadium has a natural grass pitch, with a capacity of 5000 with 30 VIP places, 250 covered seats, 3220 covered standing places and 1500 uncovered standingplaces.

The people of Omagh call the club "The Town". The club also has darts, womens football and poolmembers. In total the club got 470 members of which 180 youth members. There is even an Omagh Town supporters club. Support for the club comes mainly from the cities of Omagh, Castlederg, Dromore and Ballygawley. Main rivalry is with northwest derby rivals Coleraine FC as well as with Irish hot shot Glentoran FC. The club's merchandising department sells replica shirts, scarves, badges and pens (which is 5% of the clubs 100,000 euro budget).

The club made it to the premier league for the first time in the season 1990/1991 and stayed in for five years. In 1994/1995 when Omagh Town became ninth in the league the league was changed radically to eight teams, so Omagh were demoted. In the season 1997/1998 Omagh was back for two years to become respectively number nine and number ten in the league. The last promotion after the 2000/2001 season. Since this promotion Omagh Town has been in the highest Northern Irish league, and with succes. Although the club has never had big attendances, mostly averaging 200 people, they reached high league positions. The highpoints were finishin in fifth spot twice during the last few seasons, which is an outstanding achievement for a small country club like Omagh.
