The N11 is a major road in Ireland, running along the east side of Ireland from Dublin to Wexford. It connects Bray and Greystones, from which many commute to Dublin, and also passes through Wicklow, Arklow and Enniscorthy amongst others. The road continues to Rosslare as part of the N25 road. As of 2004 the M50 ring road around Dublin has not yet been connected to this route, due to delays over archaelogical remains due to be built upon.
The section of the N11 immediately south from the M50, bypassing Bray, has been upgraded to motorway standard and is known as the M11 motorway. A section of the road south of Bray was upgraded to dual-carriageway in spite of fierce protests by environmental protestors. Due to the geography of the area, the existing road went through the only nearby valley, Glen of the Downs which is also a wooded area. Thus expanding the road so significantly resulted in the removal of several acres of woodland.
As of 2004 further sections of the route are being upgraded to dual-carriageway or motorway standard.
