July is the seventh month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar, with 31 days. July was renamed for Julius Caesar; previously, it was called Quintilis in Latin, since it was the fifth month in the Roman calendar which started in March.

Because of its origin, until the 18th century this month was pronounced the same as the girl's name Julie.

  • In the Irish Calendar the month is called Iúil and is the third and last month of the Summer season.

Trivia

  • July begins on the same day of the week as April every year and also January in leap years.
  • July's flower is the water lily.
  • July's birthstone is the ruby.
