This WikiProject is an attempt to formulate a common template for the historical provinces of Finland. It suggests a structure which would make them more structured and give them a common look and feel.

This WikiProject aims to structure the articles for the historical provinces that geographically are a part of present day Finland, but historically was part of Sweden.

Structure

The article should start with a good introduction, giving the name of the province, its location in Finland, bordering provinces, seas or lakes and such. Also give a few facts about what the province is known for.

Next, there is a table with quick facts about the province. A template for the table can be found at the bottom of this page. The contents are as follows:

• The name of the province in Swedish and Finnish is to go on top as the caption.
• A picture of the province's coat of arms, if possible with the proper coronet attached.
• Modern Provinces: The modern province that the historical province belongs to and is divided upon.

The rest of the article should consists of a few short paragraphs. These paragraphs should give an outline of the history etc. If the need arises the link to a full article is also provided for.

The heading should look like:

The sections are:

• Modern Provinces - A brief description to the current provinces to which historical province belongs. This entry could deal with current administration or politics but should not be exhaustive but rather refer to the separate entries for the respective counties.
• History - The history of the province, particularly up to 1809 when Sweden and Finland had a common history. Modern events might more properly belong to the modern Province entry.
• Geography - A quick description of the province's main features togeather with a reference to the provinces bordering on to it.
• Heraldry - This should include the history and blazon of the coat of arms for the historical province.
• External links - Link for a province could include tourist sites for the province or official websites about the county or counties involved.

Template

When applying this template to a province stub or article (which already all exist), it should be common practice to create a temporary page to work on, with the following notice:
