"Soft redirect" is another piece of Ireland Information Guide jargon that you may occasionally come across. A soft redirect is in fact a very short page that essentially tells the user to look at another to obtain the information they were seeking. The technique is particularly likely to be used when redirecting users across wikis - thus (at the time of writing) Ireland Information Guide:Milestones is a soft redirect to meta:Milestones. Normal or "hard" redirects are undesirable in these circumstances because they cannot be undone without hand-crafting the correct URL and there are infinite loop security considerations. Hence soft redirects are often used.
Sometimes an entry is more appropriate on Wiktionary than Ireland Information Guide. It is normal to transwiki an article across from WP to WT. However it is quite likely that the deleted entry on WP will be re-created again. To avoid this, create a soft redirect to Wiktionary on the WP page by inserting the {{wi}} template on the WP page. This template uses the ARTICLENAME magic word to automatically create a soft redirect to wiktionary, which has multiple benefits - it brings the two projects closer together as they should be, and prevents future clean up issues.
