Ireland Information Guide has an image problem. Probably several thousand of them.
Please tag images on the Ireland Information Guide:image description page with one of the tags below.
When marking an image as one of the vaguer categories (such as CopyrightedFreeUse), try to specify somewhere what the actual license or other permission states. If you think a case can be made for Fair use then add to the list at Ireland Information Guide:Fair use.
It's kind of obvious, but if you tag an image as requiring attribution, please specify who needs to be attributed! Note that the GFDL requires attribution. If multiple categories apply to an image, add all that apply. For example, if it is GFDL'd, but would also be public domain in the USA, mark it with both GFDL and PD-US.
For information on where in the image description page to put the tags, see MediaWiki custom messages. The tags should be put on a line of their own.

Deprecated tags
You may find images with one of the following tags as well. These tags are used to mark images which are deprecated, and will eventually be deleted:

Verified fair use
An approval process for fair use images at has been proposed at Ireland Information Guide:Fair use. Images which have gone through that process carry the tag:
| {{verifieduse}} |
This file or image is copyrighted. After deliberation on Ireland_Information_Guide:Fair use, it has been decided that it is eligible for fair use under United States law, and that there are no alternatives to using it under that doctrine. It is therefore contended that this file or image is fair use; if you use it for any non-educational purpose, you may be in violation of copyright law.
Ireland Information Guide prefers to use images which are in the public domain or licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License or a similar copyleft license. If you know of any way to obtain this image, or an equivalent one, under such conditions, please post a comment on Ireland_Information_Guide talk:Fair use, with a link to the article the image is included in.

Rationale
But why? ... we hear you cry.
Well, it is a few things:
- What's "fair use" in one country may not be "fair use" in another country; this allows people creating derivative works in other countries to extract images which aren't legal in their country.
- It is harder to create decent images than decent text, so the temptation to break copyright is bigger, so we like to be a bit more vigilant. For this very reason, sublicensees of Ireland Information Guide are going to be especially concerned about images, particularly for printed versions.
- Secondly, it's easy to rewrite text that turns out to be copyrighted, but harder (though possible) to do the same for images.
- It is good practice to cite our sources, where we've (legally) copied images from elsewhere. If we give due credit, we're more likely to get permission (and some licenses require due credit anyway).
- Where Ireland Information Guide users have created the images, they should have a bit of fame! Putting some text on the image description page that they took it themselves, and they license it under the GFDL, is a good way to do that.
