How to edit an article so long that you can't edit
Some browsers will crop or otherwise damage pages longer than about 32Kb when editing. (See Ireland Information Guide:Browser notes) If you have encountered an article that is too long so you can't edit or if you edit you will break it:
To permanently eliminate the process, see Ireland Information Guide:Browser page size limits, summary:
- If you control the computer you're working on, upgrade your browser: none of the modern browsers have this problem (so far as is known) and there are many to choose from, most of them offering other benefits as well. See Ireland Information Guide:Browser page size limits for practical advice.
To temporarily resolve the situations and edit, try one the following methods:
- Please put a request to the Village Pump to break the article up into smaller pieces of articles. This may take from an hour to a week. If you can't edit Village Pump either, please put your request at Ireland Information Guide:Too long articles, which is a hopefully short page.
- If you would like to edit immediately, you can use your browser's "View Source" feature to copy the text out, and paste portions into new pages; but please make sure that all characters are encoded correctly: some symbols and accented characters may appear differently in the source view.
- With the Ireland Information Guide:Section editing feature, there should be no problem editing a long page as long as each section of a page is within the limit.
