Recommended process for the recording of the community's decisions to delete or keep an article.
Speedy deletion
- Delete the page (This will be automatically recorded in the Deletion log)
- If the page was listed on Ireland Information Guide:Speedy deletions, remove the entry from there, with a good comment in the edit summary.
Votes for Deletion page
Each day, all entries more than 5 days old will be moved to Ireland Information Guide:Votes for deletion/Old. It is better to only implement the decision to keep or delete a page after it has been moved there, to minimise edit conflicts on the main Ireland Information Guide:Votes for deletion page.
To process a page on Ireland Information Guide:Votes for deletion/Old:
- Determine (using the guidelines) whether the consensus was to keep or delete the article.
- Determine if the associated talk or sub-pages should also be deleted.
- Close the discussion by editing the top and bottom of the VfD discussion sub-page
- at the top with PAGE NAME {{subst:vfd top}} RESULT which will read:
- PAGE NAME was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was RESULT
- at the bottom with {{subst:vfd bottom}} which reads:
- This page is now preserved as an archive of the debate and, like other '/delete' pages is no longer 'live'. Subsequent comments on the issue, the deletion or on the decision-making process should be placed on the relevant 'live' pages. Please do not edit this page.
- If the decision is DELETE:
- a. Check "what links here" for any redirects. Redirects should also be deleted or redirected elsewhere.
- b. If a given title should never have an article, then remove all links to it making it an orphan.
- c. If appropriate, delete the article's talk page or any associated sub-pages first. Simply deleting a page does not automatically delete its talk page or any subpages.
- d. Delete the article. (This will be automatically recorded in the Deletion log.)
- e. Put a link to the discussion sub-page on Ireland Information Guide:Archived delete debates.
- If the decision is KEEP (including any variant such as REDIRECT):
- a. Remove the VfD Header from the article.
- b. Put a link to the discussion sub-page on the article's talk page.
- Remove the listing from Ireland Information Guide:Votes for deletion/Old with a good comment in the edit summary.
All others (redirects, copyrights, etc)
- If a separate discussion page was created, follow the VfD procedures above.
- If no separate discussion page was created, please consider creating one. If you choose not to, at least copy the discussion onto the article's Talk page.
