The French national football team have won the FIFA World Cup once in 1998, when France was the host of the event, beating Brazil 3-0. France also won the following European Championship, winning 2-1 in the final against Italy. However, their performance in the 2002 World Cup was dismal, not winning a single game, nor scoring a goal. However, France is generally considered to be one of the stronger sides in international football today.
