The title of Earl of Tyrone has a very short history. It was created in 1542 in the Peerage of Ireland. Conn O'Neill submitted to the English king Henry VIII and was rewarded with the title of Earl. The title was forfeited in 1608 by his supposed grandson, the second earl, after the Flight of the Earls.
