The Earldom of Plymouth has been created thrice, twice in the Peerage of England and once in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. The first creation was in 1675 for Charles FitzCharles, illegitimate son of King Charles II. He died without heirs, so the title became extinct. The second creation was in 1682 for Windsor Hickman-Windsor; that title, too, eventually became extinct. The final creation came in 1905 when Robert Windsor-Clive was created Earl.

The Earl also holds the titles of Viscount Windsor, created in 1905, and Baron Windsor, created in 1529 by writ.
