The conscription crises was a dispute between English Canadians and French Canadians about whether to impose conscription to replenish the dwindling Canadian armed forces in Europe. English Canadians wanted conscription because they felt loyal to Britain however French Canadians were opposed to conscription because they felt the war in Europe did not concern Canada and Canadian men should not die in a war that should not involve them.

This crisis split the country between the alnglophones and francophones, after the law was passed enforcing conscription by Robert Borden in 1917 riots occured in Quebec and celebrations happened throughout english speaking Canada.
