Castlerea (Irish: An Caisleán Riabhach) is located in the west of County Roscommon, Ireland. It is the second largest town in the county with a population of some 3,000. Caisleán Riabhach is also the ancestral home of the Clan Ó Conchúir Dun: the last High Kings of Ireland. The name An Caisleán Riabhach means 'the striped castle' and probably refers to the type of stone used in an earlier castle at this site. The town's connection with the famous Ó Conchúir Dun sept or clan (from the Irish clann meaning family) continues to this day with their modern seat of Clonalis House (http://www.clonalis.com) situated on the edge of town. This fine 19th century 'big house' is on land under Ó Conchúir Dun control for over 1500 years and today offers tourist accomodation in addition to being an Ó Conor family home. The two most treasured items in the small Clonalis House museum are the Ó Conchúir Dun inauguration stone and the harp of the celebrated 17 th century blind Irish harpist Toirealach Ó Cearbhalláin (http://www.contemplator.com/carolan/carlnbio.html#ossian).
