The town of Blarney is only about 8km (5 miles) from Cork City.

It is a very well maintained village with a traditional square. Many of the buildings are in Tudor style. Blarney has a relatively small population of approximately 2,000.

Blarney Castle is the main tourist attraction where many visitors kiss the renowned Blarney Stone which is high up on the Castle battlements. Tradition holds that those who kiss the Blarney Stone will be endowed with the gift of eloquence, "the gift of the gab" as the locals would say.

Today, the word blarney means clever, flattering, or coaxing talk.
