The Bank of Scotland (Ireland) has its origins in the ICC Bank which it purchased in 2001 and was later rebranded by its new parent company Bank of Scotland. ICC Bank or offically the Industrial Credit Company, alternatively called Industrial Credit Corporation, was set up in 1933 by Sean Lemass in the Irish Free State to encourage investment in industry, the company was modelled on the Agricultural Credit Corporation.
